| The services of a notary are required when documents are signed in England or Wales for use outside of the jurisdiction. This may relate to buying a property in Spain, opening a bank account in South Africa, adopting a baby in China, or incorporating a company in the Caribbean, for example.
Often the document will be prepared by lawyers in the receiving jurisdiction. Sometimes, the notary will be required to prepare the document, and the notary can advise further if this is necessary, how long it will take and what fees will be charged. The following documents are examples of those that often require notarisation:
Certain documents may require legalisation before they will be accepted in the foreign jurisdiction. This is generally undertaken by means of an "apostille" affixed by the United Kingdom Foreign & Commonwealth Office. Our notaries can organise this for you or you can obtain this yourself. Some countries will require further legalisation to be undertaken by their consulate in London, which again the notary can organise. Attending to the notarial act can take some time and a prior appointment is always necessary. |
